The candle globe was commissioned by the Churches Network for Non-Violence as their emblem in a campaign against violence to children. Influenced by a huge fabricated globe witnessed by one of the trustees in the Stockholm Cathedral, the globe represents the world whilst the candles represent children of their campaign.
The longitudes and latitudes of the globe are constructed from round bar rivetted together, the longitudes retained at the poles by turned hubs. The candle holders are each forged from one piece and spiral both up and out to produce an organic, flower like form that can accommodate a standard candle. The globe sits in a three legged stand, allowing the globe to be easily transported. The stand's top ring forms the lower latitude ring.
The globe was dedicated at Coventry Cathedral on 9th November 2009 and will accompany the charity on their roadshow of cathedrals visits throughout England.
